Accidental Love trailer previews upcoming awkwardness

To be completely honest, I’m only posting the first trailer for Accidental Love (formerly titled Nailed then retitled Politics in Love) because it began as a project from director David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter, American Hustle), which I find interesting. The film was originally meant to be Russell’s follow-up to I Heart Huckabees way back in 2008, but things fell apart and the director divorced himself from the movie. It’s since had scenes re-shot, been re-edited by producers, picked up an unknown new director, and is now scheduled for theatrical release early this year. Talk about a roller coaster ride of a production.

The plot seems almost paint-by-numbers, in a sense, but you can watch the first trailer for Accidental Love after the jump.

Again, pretty straightforward in regards to the woman-falls-for-new-man aspect, but the nail in the brain could make for some interesting outbursts and entertaining situations. The folks over at SlashFilm are saying the movie is now credited to director Stephen Greene, even though the IMDb page still has Russell in the director’s slot, so I’m not really sure what to make of this odd upcoming disaster. It looks like something that wouldn’t have been out of place in the ’90s.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Accidental Love:

Accidental Love tells the story of a small town waitress, who accidentally gets a nail lodged in her head as her boyfriend attempts his marriage proposal. Her predicament leads her on a journey to Washington DC, where she meets a dashing but clueless congressman, who might be able to help her unusual case. Will their blossoming romance survive the cut-throat politics of the Capital? Accidental Love is the funny story of what happens when sparks fly and love interferes with what you stand for.

Accidental Love stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, James Marsden, Bill Hader, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan, James Brolin, Kirstie Alley, and Paul Reubens. You can check it out in theaters on February 20, 2015.
