Stephen Dorff is a slacker superhero in first American Hero trailer

American Hero looks like Hancock with Stephen Dorff as the lead. The comparison in unavoidable, so we might as well get it out of the way. The movie sees Dorff’s character Melvin as an unambitious party-goer who happens to have telekinetic powers, and he doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to use these powers for anything other than making his life easier/more entertaining. In the beginning, it looks like Melvin is content with palling around with a wheel chair-bound Eddie Griffin and drinking, but as the trailer progresses we see him give it the ol’ Hancock try. The movie looks like it could be fun, and Dorff is an underrated actor who doesn’t get enough attention these days, so here’s hoping American Hero will be worth the watch.

Again, not bad, right? It seems to know what it’s going for and is unashamedly enjoying its concept. The movie is bound to slide in under the radar, but it looks to be worth tracking down and checking out.

Here’s the plot synopsis for American Hero that’s going around:

Melvin, a reluctant hero who is far from super, has been suppressing his telekinetic powers for years with booze, drugs, and women. In the process, he has failed at practically everything, most of all as a parent to his son. After a brush with death, Melvin decides to use his powers for good and clean up the streets of New Orleans with the help of his best friend/definitely-not-a-sidekick, Lucille. For a man who can do the impossible, it might be a fight even he can’t win.

American Hero was directed by Nick Love and stars Stephen Dorff, Luis Da Silva Jr., Eddie Griffin, Bill Billions, and Grayson Kilpatrick. You can give it a watch in select theaters and on VOD on December 11, 2015.
