Paul Rudd is finally Ant-Man in first full-length trailer

The rising trend of teasers for teasers of teaser trailers is getting pretty ridiculous. So, after the recently released “ant-sized” and then “human-sized” sneak peeks (both under 20 seconds), it’s excellent to finally see a full-length trailer for Marvel’s upcoming odd-man-out movie Ant-Man. The film stars a thin-looking Paul Rudd as the titular character, backed by a surprisingly strong supporting cast, and the new trailer paints a picture of the pint-sized superhero almost reluctantly putting on the suit for the first time and becoming Ant-Man. Not a lot is revealed, but it’s definitely more than almost-silly teases we’ve seen so far.

It’s common knowledge in the cinemascape that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) was originally attached to direct, but he and Marvel parted ways over the often-responsible culprit of creative differences. Since Wright’s departure, Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) has taken the helm, and film-goers are anxious to see just what kind of Marvel movie the man has crafted. Word has it his/the studio’s vision is nowhere near as bold as Wright’s original concepts.

Here’s an official plot synopsis for Ant-Man to fill us in on the bank heist-type movie that’s being set up:

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily, Judy Greer, Hayley Atwell, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Pena, Wood Harris, Jordi Molla, John Slattery, Martin Donovan, David Dastmalchian, and T.I. The movie makes its way to theaters on July 17, 2015.
