(This is a re-post from when the trailer or one similar was originally leaked and then immediately pulled way back in September of 2013)

Foxcatcher is bound to be a film judged by its performances. (SPOILERS IF YOU DON”T KNOW THE TALE) The based-on-a-true-story adaptation unravels the murder of Dave Schultz at the hands of John du Pont, and knowing the ending of the story is only part of what will make this film worth watching. The film comes from director Bennett Miller (Moneyball, , and Steve Carell looks and sounds astoundingly different in his embodiment of du Pont. Channing Tatum paired with Mark Ruffalo as the Schultz brothers complete the trio of real-world players turned dramatic foils. The teaser shows just enough to be intriguing without giving away too much, which is a breathe of fresh air in a world where trailers bare all.

The trailer previews greatness in many forms. Great drama. Great performances. Great subject material to adapt. Greatness for a country and an individual. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t have a happy ending, but sharing a sad story artistically often has a stronger impact than your standard fairy tale wrap-up. Foxcatcher looks very promising.

Here’s an official synopsis for the film:

FOXCATCHER is a psychological drama directed by Academy Award nominee Bennett Miller (MONEYBALL) and starring Golden Globe winner Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo, Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller. The film was written by E. Max Frye and Academy Award nominee Dan Futterman. FOXCATCHER tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins “coaching” a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral. Based on actual events, FOXCATCHER is a gripping and profoundly American story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness that was to end in tragedy.

Foxcatcher is set to hit theaters later this fall (November 14th) just in time for heavy awards consideration.
