Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy finally gets a trailer

Yesterday we saw an excellent new image of the team, and today, thanks to a world premiere from Jimmy Kimmel Live, the highly-anticipated Guardian’s of the Galaxy trailer has finally arrived! Directed by James Gunn (Slither, Super), if any Marvel film has taken a step outside the box it’s this one. A widely-unknown property paired with reservations regarding a talking raccoon, an entirely off-world setting, and more bizarre oddities than anything we’ve seen before could be considered quite the gamble. As should be the case with any movie, be it highly-anticipated or not, let’s wait until release before passing judgement.

That said, watch the very promising trailer after the jump.

UPDATE: First poster for the film now included.

Talk about taking a running jump outside of the Marvel box! This looks like a lot of fun, and given everyone involved we can only hope the film will be an exceptional entry into the cannon.

Here’s an official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy:

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Batista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Benicio Del Toro, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Gregg Henry,  and Michael Rooker. It’s scheduled to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
