Jupiter Ascending trailer previews new sci-fi epic from Wachowskis

The Wachowskis are back with a new sci-fi epic titled Jupiter Ascending. If you jumped off the bandwagon with Cloud Atlas given its convoluted plot you’ll be happy to know Jupiter Ascending looks like a straightforward space opera. The movie has managed to stay pretty much under wraps until today, and the trailer is most likely only a fraction of what we can expect from the finished product, so the teaser is a great way to introduce us to another Wachowski-fathomed sci-fi fantasy. Plus, it’s pretty.

Watch Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis meet to fulfill galactic prophecy in the first trailer for Jupiter Ascending after the jump.

Granted, elf-eared Channing Tatum, along with pretty much everything else in the trailer, feels plucked straight out of the fantasy/sci-fi genre playbook, but everyone onboard seems committed. The movie could be a lot of fun, and if the trailer is any indication audiences will have a little easier time latching on to this than the previous outing from the director siblings.

Here’s a synopsis for Jupiter Ascending courtesy of SlashFilm:

Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things.  Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks.  Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Jupiter Ascending stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, James D’Arcy, and Terry Gilliam. The film hits theaters July 25, 2014.
