Star Wars: The Force Awakens new full-length trailer debuts

Film fans and Star Wars die-hards are going all kinds of crazy over the newest trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, and rightly so. Where the prequels failed, J.J. Abrams and crew appear to have succeeded, and The Force Awakens looks like an exciting blend of old and new with a bit of lens flare thrown in for good measure. I’m not detailing the trailer like countless other sites are bound to, and I’ll let the sneak peek speak for itself. What’s most surprising, outside of everything seemingly working on every level so far, is the absence of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. A brand new official poster also popped up recently, and he’s missing from that too. It’s curious, to say the least, and there’s plenty of speculation suggesting he gets the ol’ Obi-Wan axe early on. Only time will tell.

Watch the brand new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and check out the new poster after the jump.

There’s a lot of myth and prophecy rearing its subtle head in this new trailer, with Han Solo revealing the existence of Jedi and the old adventures to a younger generation and Kylo Ren promising to finish what Darth Vader started. The poster below also hints at a new Death Star, which is a mixed bag of sorts. Why build a new Death Star? Who’s good and who’s bad? Is Finn going to be able to hold his own in a one-on-one lightsaber fight? Again, all questions will be answered in time, but plenty of other sites are going to tear this trailer apart frame by frame and overanalyze everything. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if multiple posts and articles arise smearing all kinds of speculation all over the place, and that’s just not my bag, baby. So, give the trailer another watch and do some overanalyzing yourself it that’s your thing. It’s definitely worth a few views, and I think it’s safe to say the Star Wars hype train has left the station.

Also curiously absent from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens marketing material is an official synopsis. Usually by this point in a campaign we’ve got a pretty solid plot synopsis backing up a handful of trailers, but nothing official has made the rounds yet. I’m guessing that’s Abrams trying to keep things secret as long as possible, which is his style, but there’s a chance something will pop up before long.

What we do have is a great cast list that includes Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy SerkisDomhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Warwick Davis, Simon Pegg, and Kenny Baker. Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18, 2015.
