Terminator: Genisys trailer shows us a grey-haired Arnie

My feelings are mixed regarding the upcoming reboot/alternate timeline movie that is Terminator: Genisys. On one hand, it’s awesome to get another chapter of the Terminator saga. On the other hand, it’s kind of strange to think of a teenage Sarah Connor (maybe she’s a little older?) calling a grey-haired Arnie T-800 “Pops” and changing the timeline completely. Only time will tell if the movie makes its mark or proves to be an unnecessary installment in an aging franchise. That said, the first full-length trailer for the film has finally arrived to give us a glimpse of what to expect.

Watch the full-length trailer for Terminator: Genisys after the jump.

Granted, it’s great to see a new Liquidator (don’t care if that’s not his name; as a ’90s kid, that’s what I call him), but nothing about the trailer jumps out as must-see material. Also, notably missing is Matt Smith, who made a big impression when the first images popped up last month. Here’s hoping the movie is as fantastic as we all want it to be!

Some plot details for Terminator: Genisys surfaced a while back to let us know what we’re in for:

The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.

Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

And here’s the plot synopsis IMDb is offering:

The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John’s fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

Terminator: Genisys stars Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Byung-hun Lee, and Courtney B. Vance. The film is scheduled to hit theaters July 1, 2015.
