Free Fire trailers see A-list stars shooting each other

Free Fire flew in under my radar somehow, and the first trailers for the movie make it look like a must-watch. Seriously, how did I not know this movie was on its way? It looks like the lovechild of early Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino films, and Free Fire is receiving a lot of praise after it’s recent Toronto Film Festival debut. I’m sold. We don’t get enough of this kind of movie, and if the trailers are any indication, this thing is 90 minutes of awesome. The talent involved, the apparent premise, and all the whacky in-betweens make for a nice little package, and I’m ready to unwrap it in theaters sometime next year!

Free Fire looks like a bullets-and-backstabbing bash, and seeing this kind of cast have this kind of fun is worth the price of admission for me. For one, I love it when Sharlto Copley gets to go wild. His performances in Hardcore Henry made the movie, and it appears he’s still on a roll. In addition to Copley’s craziness, how great is it to watch Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, and Jack Reynor hamming it up a bit? Everyone involved holds their own in the trailer, and the prospect of a 90-minute bottle shoot ’em up movie is exciting.

After director Ben Wheatley‘s wild ride of a downward spiral High-Rise, Free Fire looks like a foot-on-the-gas, wiggling out the jitters follow-up. Of note is the studio A24’s involvement, which usually means we’re guaranteed something special. A lot of people immediately give a movie the A24 seal of approval, but the studio can be hit or miss in my opinion (2016’s The Sea of Trees was torn apart by critics). Fortunately, Free Fire looks like a blast!

Free Fire stars Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Michael Smiley, Sam Riley, and Noah Taylor. As of now, no official release date has been announced, but the movie is forecasted to hit theaters next year. Look for it sometime in 2017!
