Murder on the Orient Express trailer teases a star-studded cast

Murder on the Orient Express teased us with a poster yesterday and followed up with a trailer premiere this morning. The new/remake movie looks just like you’d expect an Agatha Christie adaptation to look, regardless of whether you were a fan of the 1974 film or not. Kenneth Branagh sets the stage with his accentuated accent as “probably the greatest detective in the world,” and all the player pieces are put on the board in a short-but-sufficient trailer tease for the upcoming remake. It’s going to be a little difficult for Murder on the Orient Express to escape the remake/reimagining/retelling stereotype, but the star-studded cast may help this one pop up on people’s radars as it approaches a November release date.

Have you seen the first film? Read the original novel? Looking forward to this update? Watch the first trailer, check out the new poster, and read a short plot synopsis for Murder on the Orient Express after the jump.

I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t seen the original movie, and that’s probably a film sin given it was directed by Sidney Lumet and starred some of that time’s most iconic actors (Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Jacqueline Bisset). I am familiar with the 1934 Agatha Christie novel though, and the first trailer for the new movie takes no time in showing us who’s a suspect. As in true Christie fashion, that means everyone. It’ll be fun to see these top-notch actors playing off one another and doing their damnedest to look innocent. If you’ve never seen the original film or read the novel, I recommend steering clear of most marketing material for this one. You’ll want to go in with as little info as possible to ride along with the mystery.

That said, here’s a bare-bones plot for Murder on the Orient Express to set the stage if the trailer didn’t already do that for you:

What starts out as a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into one of the most stylish, suspenseful and thrilling mysteries ever told. From the novel by best selling author Agatha Christie, “Murder on the Orient Express” tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train, where everyone’s a suspect. One man must race against time to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again.

The Murder on the Orient Express remake stars Johnny DeppKenneth Branagh (who also directed), Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy RidleyJosh GadPenélope CruzWillem DafoeJudi DenchOlivia ColmanManuel Garcia-RulfoTom BatemanDerek Jacobi, and Leslie Odom Jr. The movie rolls into theaters on November 10, 2017.
