Alan Ritchson has been cast as Raphael for new live-action TMNT

Deadline is reporting that Alan Ritchson (Blue Mountain State, Smallville) has signed on to play Raphael for the new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. He’ll join already-cast Megan Fox (who’s playing April O’Neill) and will take direction from Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans, Battle Los Angeles).

The new TMNT is tentatively titled Ninja Turtles film is scheduled to hit theaters May 16, 2014.

Hummingbird sees Statham as ex-special forces member Joey Jones living on the streets while on the run from a court martial. The film is the directorial debut of writer Stephen Knight (Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises).

Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Place Beyond the Pines) is stepping behind the camera with his directorial debut How to Catch a Monster, and it sounds like he’ll be staying there for a while. The much-loved actor says he’s losing perspective, and he hopes stepping back for a bit will help narrow his focus (via

““I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing,” says the star. “I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.
“There’s a lot of pressure to be the lead of a film,” he  continues. “I have done it. It’s not my favourite way to work. The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to fuck it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint, because I do have so much freedom.”

The film was formerly titled American Bullshit and focuses on real-life sting operation “Abscam” that saw the FBI using a con artist to help root out corruption in Congress in the 1980’s.

The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Michael Caine and centers around a group of illusionists who rob banks during their shows. Looks like a good time!

Now You See Me makes its way to theaters May 31st.
