ISLE OF DOGS trailer reminds us Wes Anderson’s stop-motion is as quirky as his live-action

First trailer for Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs

Isle of Dogs debuted its first trailer just over two months ago, so my apologies for only now sharing it. The site’s due for a redesign, and I’ve been falling behind, but it’s good to be back. The new stop-motion full-length feature from Wes Anderson comes eight years after Fantastic Mr. Fox, the director’s first foray into stop-motion, and it’s great to see Anderson dipping his toes into the medium again. This time around, we’re taken to Japan twenty years in the future, a time when overcrowding of the canine population leads to an outbreak of dog flu, and then we crash land with the film’s main character onto…wait for it…an isle of exiled dogs. The premise is fun, the voice acting is top-notch (Anderson has a rolodex full of familiar faces/voices to fill out his cast), and the fine edge and composition that have become a Wes Anderson staple all make Isle of Dogs worth the watch. I’m loving everything I see here.

Haven’t heard of Isle of Dogs or need a refresher since it’s been so long since the trailer dropped? Watch the trailer, read a short plot synopsis, and check out two posters for Isle of Dogs after the jump.

DOWNSIZING trailer is Matt Damon’s Honey I Shrunk the Kids! world for wealthy adults

Downsizing trailer shrinks Damon and Wiig down to a manageable size

The first trailer for Downsizing dropped mid-month to preview the upcoming Honey I Shrunk the Adults-style overpopulation and responsible budgeting dramedy from director Alexander Payne (Sideways, Nebraska). Imagine a world in which $52,000 is worth $12 million because you’re only a few inches tall and your resource demands are only a fraction of the cost. Sure, shrinking yourself and your financial responsibilities may be exciting and adventurous at first, but I bet the seams start to come apart when the gravity of what you’ve done sets in. That’s the premise of Payne’s Downsizing, an odd movie that sees a tiny Matt Damon scraped off a hospital table by a nurse with a spatula, and I’m curious to say the least.

Watch the first trailer for Downsizing and read a short plot synopsis for the movie after the jump.

THE DISASTER ARTIST trailer promises a self-aware meta mockumentary of The Room

disaster artist movie trailer 2017

The Disaster Artist trailers put Tommy Wiseau front and center again

No one knew what to expect when The Disaster Artist was first announced. Until the new trailer for the movie dropped, wondering why a James Franco-starring meta mockumentary film about the making of the infamous movie The Room needed to exist would be a natural response. Having seen the trailer, I’m joining the online opinion that The Disaster Artist could be something special. Not as laugh-out-loud upsettingly terrible as The Room special, but terribly laugh-out-loud upsetting in an ironic sort of way. Franco’s portrayal of the cartoonish Tommy Wiseau seems on-point, and the humor appears to be a self-deprecating thread holding together a more heartfelt tale of dreams, triumphs, and disasters.

If you’re still skeptical, check out the new trailer after the jump.

READY PLAYER ONE gets its first trailer and teases Spielberg’s anticipated adaptation

Spielberg’s Ready Player One adaptation gets a crazy trailer

Ready Player One made a big splash as a novel in 2011 and found a home in the hearts of ’80s nostalgia enthusiasts the world over. Steven Spielberg, the ’80s nostalgia auteur himself, decided the book was perfect source material for a live-action, big screen adaptation, and the first trailer for his movie proves there will be plenty of in-book references for the director to play with. Personally, I wasn’t smitten by the book, and I felt the ’80s pop culture references were a bit heavy handed at times, but I can imagine a movie adaptation in the hands of Spielberg (and backed by the cast this movie has) being a ton of fun. The trailer teases plenty of recognizable characters and creatures, and the book was packed with enough references to fill a few Spielberg toy boxes, so it’ll be cool to see what makes the cut and what gets left out.

Not sure what Ready Player One is? Check out the trailer for the movie after the jump.

Red band trailer for INGRID GOES WEST focuses on social media obsession

ingrid goes west movie trailer

Explore Aubrey Plaza’s social media obsession in Ingrid Goes West

UPDATE: Now includes newest full-length trailer for the movie after the jump as well.

The first red band teaser trailer for Ingrid Goes West previews the dark side of social media mania. It’s red band for a few choice words early in the trailer, but for the most part there’s nothing overtly outrageous on display. The movie looks like it might loosely follow the introvert-turns-crazy-party-girl stereotype, but there’s enough flair on display in the trailer to give off hints of Sophia Coppola mixed with maybe Harmony Korine. Admittedly, I don’t know much about this one, but it looks like it could be dark and quirky in a cult classic black comedy sort of way. Aubrey Plaza has been doing more out-of-the-box work lately, with this and the upcoming naughty nun movie The Little Hours, and I’m interested to see where Ingrid Goes West…goes.

Check out the red band teaser (again, red band for language), read a plot synopsis, and take a look at the poster for the movie after the jump.
