Mel Gibson protects his daughter in Blood Father trailer

Mel Gibson is a mixed bag when it comes to his big screen vs personal life reputation, but his upcoming movie Blood Father looks like a good time. His personal opinions and ravings aside, the man is almost universally praised as a powerhouse performer on-screen and a solid storyteller behind the camera, so it’s nice to see him back in action. While Gibson has been getting a lot of publicity recently for news about a Passion of the Christ sequel, Blood Father sort of slipped through the cracks when the trailer debuted a while back and I wanted to make sure I shared this preview before it hits theaters this summer.

Watch the first trailer for Blood Father, read a plot synopsis for the movie, and check out the poster after the jump.

Even well-aged, Gibson is still worth watching when put in that let-him-off-the-leash kind of role. He added his own flavor the to Expendables franchise, got a little crazy in both Machete Kills and Get the Gringo, and it looks like he’ll be shedding some blood in Blood Father before all is said and done. I’m all for more Gibson. Anyone hear that rumor that Robert Downey Jr. wanted him to direct Iron Man 4? Now that I could get into.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Blood Father:

After her drug kingpin boyfriend frames her for stealing a fortune in cartel cash, 18 year old Lydia goes on the run, with only one ally in this whole wide world: her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link, who’s been a drunk, a drug addict, a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and now is determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing…

Blood Father stars Mel Gibson, Elisabeth RöhmWilliam H. Macy, Diego Luna, Michael Parks, Thomas Mann, Dale Dickey, and Raoul Max Trujillo. The movie hits theaters August 25, 2016.
