First trailer for Edge of Tomorrow looks like a lot of fun

Edge of Tomorrow (formerly titled All You Need Is Kill) finally has an official first trailer, and it looks great. Tom Cruise is back battling aliens for the preservation of Earth and humanity, again, but this one looks like a must-see. Take this year’s Elysium, mix in a bit of 2011’s Source Code, imagine a little StarCraft combat, remember the majesty of Bill Paxton, and watch Emily Blunt explode. Yeah, the trailer is definitely worth a watch or two.

Get your future sci-fi on by checking out the very first trailer for Edge of Tomorrow after the jump.

The trailer gives away just enough to whet our appetites for aliens vs. humans one-on-one combat while not revealing too much of the plot or how it’ll be different than time-bending sci-fi of the past.

Here’s an in-depth synopsis for Edge of Tomorrow to give you some more perspective:

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Jeremy Piven. It’s set to invade theaters June 6, 2014.
