Godzilla teaser trailer brings the monster back to life

Legendary Pictures, Toho, Warner Bros., and Monsters director Gareth Edwards are bringing Godzilla back to the big screen, and the very first “teaser” trailer for the film was revealed today. It really is only a sneak peak at what looks like a very large movie. With the big guy’s image tarnished a bit for American/all audiences by Roland Emmerich’s 1998 masterpiece maybe Edwards’ is the man who can make us love the monster again.

Catch a glimpse of some big names cowering in fear and running for their lives in the first teaser trailer for Godzilla after the jump.

What do you think? The trailer is more atmospheric than “Godzilla Smash!”, which is nice, and for a first look it’s just enough to spark some curiosity. Edwards did a great job showing very little but establishing a strong atmosphere with Monsters, so with a bigger budget and the weight of a reboot like this on his shoulders here’s hoping he’s made an amazing film. A longer, full-length trailer will most likely pop up in the near future detailing the plot and giving away more than necessary, but until then give the above teaser another few watches if the big nuclear mutated lizard is your monster of choice.

Here’s a short synopsis for Godzilla:

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, Victor Rasuk, David Strathairn, Sally Hawkins, and Richard T. Jones. The film roars into theaters May 16, 2014.
