New trailers for a thriller, and actioner, and a bit of time travel

Sometimes movie trailers, posters, pictures, and any little piece of marketing material can flood the internet in a single day or week, and it can be hard to keep up with everything going on in the world of cinema. I thought it might be helpful to give you a healthy helping of movie trailers that you may have missed. This week sees glimpses of a new Elijah Wood and John Cusack thriller, a Kevin Costner action film from McG and Luc Besson, and a shaky cam cross of time travel irresponsibility and unexpected consequences. Watch the new trailers for Grand Piano, Welcome to Yesterday, and 3 Days to Kill after the jump!

Trailer #1 – Grand Piano

Admittedly, Grand Piano looks to be a bit silly. Wouldn’t reading sinister messages while trying to not miss a note only make concentrating that much harder? Anyway, let’s hope the talent of Elijah Wood and John Cusack can help elevate the material above B-movie leftovers.

Heres’ a synopsis for Grand Piano:

Elijah Wood plays Tom Selznick, the most talented pianist of his generation, who has stopped performing in public because of his stage fright. Years after a catastrophic performance, he reappears in public for a long awaited concert in Chicago. In a packed theater, in front of an expectant audience, Tom finds a message written on the score: “Play one wrong note and you die.” In the sights of an anonymous sniper (Cusack), Tom must get through the most difficult performance of his life and look for help without being detected.

Grand Piano makes its way to On Demand on January 30, 2014 and wide release on March 7, 2014.

Trailer #2 – Welcome to Yesterday

Welcome to Yesterday has been compared to The Butterfly Effect, Primer, and Chronicle, and arguments could be made that the movie “borrows” from those films at its core. The fact that it’s being produced by Michael Bay may steer a few film fans clear of this one, but it’s not necessarily fair to let a producing credit sway one’s opinion before seeing the end result. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to track down an official synopsis, but the trailer seems to spell out what’s going on pretty well.

Welcome to Yesterday is scheduled to hit theaters February 28, 2014.

Trailer #3 – 3 Days to Kill

There used to be a time when the name Luc Besson meant something spectacular. That time appears to have passed, but what the man seems to have dulled as a director he’s still keeping sharp from the writer’s chair. 3 Days to Kill was penned by Besson and directed by McG (Terminator Salvation, Charlie’s Angels), and the trailer looks to mingle both men’s strengths into a decent action film with just a hint of humor. Kevin Costner is getting back on the action train with this and the upcoming Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and here’s hoping it’ll be an entertaining ride.

Read the synopsis for the film:

In this heart pounding action-thriller, Kevin Costner is a dangerous international spy, who is determined to give up his high stakes life to finally build a closer relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he’s previously kept at arm’s length to keep out of danger. But first, he must complete one last mission – even if it means juggling the two toughest assignments yet: hunting down the world’s most ruthless terrorist and looking after his teenage daughter for the first time in ten years, while his wife is out of town.

3 Days to Kill stars Kevin Costner, Amber Heard, and Hailee Steinfeld. You can find it in theaters on February 21, 2014.
