Is JumpView a new way to watch?

JumpView lets viewers choose their own adventure…in a way

While JumpView may not be new news it seems worth taking a look at, and if you’re one who’s always on the lookout for fun ways to take in some of your favorite movies and shows then it might be just what you’re looking for.

JumpView, an online media viewing service, lets users skip around and follow the most interesting characters and story lines almost like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Read more and check out a trailer for the site’s first original film Campus Life (with cameos from Ray Liotta and Martin Scorsese for some reason) after the jump!

Here’s a trailer for Campus Life which is kind of what you’d expect from a Choose Your Own Adventure type of film:

While JumpView’s content offering is fairly slim at this point the site seems like an interesting method of digesting the same dish a different way. Right now it looks like only the Akira Kurosawa film Rashoman, fan-favorite Firefly, CBS show Jericho, the 90’s Twin Peaks, and some original content called Campus Life are watchable. That said, it’s a little unclear what is actually available without signing up. On the homepage you’re met with a slider of some more popular shows like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Freaks and Geaks, but if you try to select these options you’re redirected to a page asking you to join a petition to “be able to watch this show on jumpview”.

So, it’s possible there’s even less available at this time then it would seem. While JumpView appears to be taking a proactive approach to acquiring some more attractive entertainment with an actual petition, I’m sure the folks over at Netflix, Hulu, and the likes all have a nice long list of movies and TV shows they wouldn’t mind adding to their offerings. So, simply asking for a show isn’t a surefire way of getting that show on your site.

It’s an interesting concept to say the least. JumpView makes it easy to skip over the boring stuff and focus in on the characters and paths you find most enjoyable, which is essentially what fan edits of films have been doing for a long time. A streamlined way of watching your own fan edits so to speak could catch on, and it’ll be fun to see how far JumpView can actually jump before running out of solid ground.

Right now you can sign up for a free trial and see what it’s all about. Would you pay to watch your shows and movies the way you want to watch them?
