Includes comments by Alan Ritchson (Raphael) calming fan skepticism

Danny Woodburn (image after the jump) has signed on to play the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ mentor in the newest adaptation of the material for the big screen. The film is being called Ninja Turtles, and production is already underway.

Check out a few images of the actor and some words from Alan Ritchson defending the film after the jump.

danny woodburn in watchmenWoodburn, known for his characters in the Watchmen film, Seinfeld, and a ridiculous number of other television shows, will most likely be putting on the motion capture suit for Splinter. That said, wouldn’t it be interesting to see the production put the man in practical makeup and take advantage of his size for the role?

Ninja Turtles is being produced by Michael Bay, is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans, Battle Los Angeles), and already has its turtles cast. Alan Ritchson will play Raphael, Jeremy Howard is Donatello, Pete Ploszek is team leader Leonardo, and Noel Fisher rounds out the group as Michelangelo.

“The frustrating thing for me since I’ve signed on is that you hear that it’s already got a reputation, this movie that hasn’t come out yet. I think people assume they know what it’s going to be about, and those people are wrong. The assumptions, everything you read online is wrong and it’s frustrating because you want to tell everybody how great it is, and you can’t really say why, but it is. It’s so much better than people think and it’s going to look way better than anybody can imagine. I can’t wait for people to see this. I think it’s going to live up to and exceed everybody’s boyhood dreams of being a Ninja Turtle. I grew up with it too and I want to see it come to life in the best way possible.”

And here’s a little more of the interview clip from The Hollywood Reporter:

Ninja Turtles is set for a 2014 release date, and we’ll most likely get a bit more in terms of casting news as production amps up and a villain is introduced. No word yet on who Will Forte will play, but here’s hoping he’ll ham it up as a real-world Vernon!
