Pooh and pals are out to save a grown-up Christopher Robin in first movie trailers

(I’ve been dealing with some health issues for the last little while. Apologies for being away for so long.)

Christopher Robin is the upcoming live-action Winnie-the-Pooh movie from Disney, and a couple of trailers for the film have already dropped to preview what appears to be an exceptional adaptation. Comparisons have been made to 1991’s Hook, in which an older Peter Pan (played by the late, great Robin Williams) goes back to Neverland to recapture his youth, his children, and a lost sense of adventure. And the comparisons are fair. The trailers for Christopher Robin paint a picture of an older Robin who goes back to the Hundred Acre Wood but instead of him sticking around to recapture youth and go on an adventure, Christopher’s pals (imaginary no more) come into our world to lend a helping hand.

The gang’s all here–Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, and Roo–and I was surprised by how nostalgic and emotional the trailers made me. I was never really a big fan of Winnie-the-Pooh growing up, but there’s something about this adaptation that feels right.

Watch two of the newer trailers for Disney’s Christopher Robin:

What more can you say other than precious? Heartwarming? Family friendly for all the right reasons? Again, there’s just something about this adaptation that other, similar Disney re-imaginings didn’t seem to have, and the movie’s trailers resonate well for me. Here’s hoping the movie will be a magical mix of fantasy and real-world drama wrapped up in a happy Disney bow.

In case you need an official Christopher Robin plot synopsis, here’s what’s floating around:

In the heartwarming live action adventure Disney’s “Christopher Robin,” the young boy who shared countless adventures with his band of lovable stuffed animals in the Hundred Acre Wood is now grown up and living in London but he has lost his way. Now it is up to his childhood friends to venture into our world and help Christopher Robin rediscover the joys of family life, the value of friendship and to appreciate the simple pleasures in life once again.

Christopher Robin stars Ewan McGregor in the title role, and Hayley AtwellJim CummingsPeter CapaldiToby JonesBrad GarrettSophie Okonedo, and Nick Mohammed are joining him. The movie is directed by Marc Forster, who has a track record of being very comfortable jumping from family friendly films like Finding Neverland to adult action films like Quantum of Solace or World War Z. I think the movie is in good hands.

Christopher Robin hits theaters on August 3, 2018.
