First King Arthur: Legend of the Sword trailer is less Ritchie-infused than expected

There have been more than a few big screen tellings of the King Arthur tale, but this spring Guy Ritchie (Snatch, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) is re-imagining the story in his own style. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword got its first trailer way back in July when it debuted at Comic-Con, but it kind of came and went without making much of a splash. The trailer has been on my list of previews worth sharing, and it’s about time I cleaned up that list. The first trailer really does make the story feel like a Guy Ritchie joint, with quickly revealed plot points and plenty of crazy camera action, so it should be interesting to see what the director can bring to a swords and sandals epic. If anything, Jude Law’s villain Vortigern looks like fun.

Watch the first trailer, read a plot synopsis, and check out the poster for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword after the jump.

“Raised on the streets. Born to be king.” Not much of a tagline, but the trailer has tidbits worth sparking one’s curiosity. Aside from Law’s villain, it looks like there’s a bit of traditional swords and sandals fair – magic, battles, adventure – so fans of the genre could be in for a treat with Ritchie at the helm. The director may have dipped his toes in dirty water with Swept Away, but for the most part his resume is solid if not above par given how long he’s been making movies. I’ll give this one a chance.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword that was attached to the trailer when it was first released:

When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.
