Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser trailer sets the tone for the Marvel sequel

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been developing quietly under the watchful eye of director James Gunn, and the first teaser trailer for the movie finally debuted. The sneak peek teaser is bound to get dissected and mined for gold nuggets (like Yondu and Rocket walking as it’s raining men, baby Groot and his jacket, Nebula’s patched up face), and it’s worth watching the short trailer a few times to get hooked on a feeling again. Drax sure is. The gang’s all back, and the cast boasts a few more familiar faces, so here’s hoping Vol. 2 will prove to be an exceptional entry in Marvel’s Phase 3 lineup.

Watch the first teaser trailer sneak peek for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 after the jump.

Guardians of the Galaxy has, so far, been its own little Marvel gem, but word has it the gang will be joining the bigger Marvel Extended Universe picture soon. Whether we’ll get a strong segue in Vol.2 or just an after credits teaser is unclear, but fans are ready for a sequel regardless of its connection to the MCU. We’ll have to wait a while to see the movie in theaters, so there’s plenty of time for another trailer or two to drop before next May. James Gunn has made it clear through Twitter that this “sneak peek” is not a teaser for a trailer, which is the new norm, but instead it’s a little treat that’s separate from the eventual trailer(s) to be released.

Here’s the current official plot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but I’m sure we’ll get something meatier as the movie gets closer to release:

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Elizabeth Debicki, Nathan Fillion, Glenn Close, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. The movie hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
