Bond is getting too old for this sh*t in first No Time to Die trailer

The first No Time to Die trailer dropped, and it sets a very self-aware tone for an aging 007. He’s a man out of time, in a sense, and the world around him isn’t going to stop.

No Time to Die teases a pretty stereotypical coming out of retirement for one last adventure framing. He’s old, but he’s still able to kick some ass. This time around, it’s a tech-type villain named Safin (played by Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek) whose ass he’ll kick.

Check out the first trailer for No Time to Die below:

No Time to Die is the 25th Bond film, which doesn’t sound as impressive as it used to given the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which will hit 24 movies with the release of Black Widow next year). Consider that Dr. No, the first James Bond movie, came out in 1964.

But that’s not to downplay the cinematic legacy of the James Bond movies. They persist, and No Time to Die appears to realign the franchise for a “woke” world.

“The world has moved on,” says a Lashana Lynch’s 00 agent. There’s been rumor the next 007 would be a woman, so this seems to be a direct “we heard you, the franchise can evolve” nod to the viewer. The classic man-centric, outdated era of Bond is over, it seems to say. There’s also a very haggard tone going on in the trailer, giving Bond an “I’m too old for this” air. One last hurrah? Possibly.

No Time to Die is helmed by director Cary Joji Fukunaga. He’s responsible for movies like Beasts of No Nation and It (2017, writer), and he’s also behind acclaimed television like the first season of True Detective and Netflix’s Maniac. Hopefully, his involvement is more his style and direction than it is studio requests and interference. Remember, Sam Mendes directed Spectre, and it was critically panned even though the director had a great track record.

Here’s the official No Time to Die plot synopsis:

In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
